The Peace Box

The Peace Box is part of a 4-book set written by Joseph Pintauro and illustrated by Norman Lauberte, published in 1970. My mom was a hippie when she was a teenager and she gave me the set when I was a little kid. It was instantly my favorite book series of all time. It is very difficult to find information (even on the internet) but from what I can gather Joseph Pintauro was a priest who made a bunch of psychedelically illustrated books about spirituality and philosophy in the late 60s/early 70s. The Peace Box has the most hippy-dippy poetry of the set, but at times the writing can get surreal and downright disturbing. Albeit in a fresh and exciting way.

Sadly, my copy of the truly eerie The Magic Box (I remember the cover featured a skeleton with a Victorian girl crucified on its ribcage) was lost with my youth.
